In a unique wedding ceremony, 151 couples from Sholapur district were married in a mass wedding organised by Lokmanya organisation on Sunday. The two fold agenda of this a wedding was to promote equality by keeping it open to all religions and help the debt-ridden poor strata of society.
This a great move, especially considering the debate around rising wave of intolerance.
The grand affair, under the guidance of founder chairman Subhash Deshmukh, the sitting MP of South Solapur, was graced by cine artist Sayaji Shinde, Ujwal Nikam and other leading politicians, counsellors, industrialists, professionals and social workers of the area.
Apart from the mass weddings, a blood donation camp as well as an exhibition titled "Atulya Solapur" on the lines of the approval of smart city project for Solapur was held too. Around 2500 volunteers and 70 committees were involved to make this event a success.
