Sholapur: When 151 couples from different religions got married in a common ceremony

The grand affair, conducted by Lokmangal Foundation helped 151 couples get married.

In a unique wedding ceremony, 151 couples from Sholapur district were married in a mass wedding organised by Lokmanya organisation on Sunday. The two fold agenda of this a wedding  was to promote equality by keeping it open to all religions and help the debt-ridden poor strata of society.

This a great move, especially considering the debate around rising wave of intolerance. 

AT A GLANCE
The procession of couples was organised in 160 auto rickshaws and their various wedding needs were met too such as wedding wardrobe, mangalsutra, utensils, bags, etc. 

However, the prime attractions of the whole set up were drones and CC cameras that were used to ensure that the ten screens which were put across the city could cover the wedding live. 

The grand affair, under the guidance of founder chairman Subhash Deshmukh, the sitting MP of South Solapur, was graced by cine artist Sayaji Shinde, Ujwal Nikam and other leading politicians, counsellors, industrialists, professionals and social workers of the area. 

​Apart from the mass weddings, a blood donation camp as well as an exhibition titled "Atulya Solapur" on the lines of the approval of smart city project for Solapur was held too. Around 2500 volunteers and 70 committees were involved to make this event a success.
