While the incident of murder of a school child in Ryan international school in Gurugram has highlighted the lack of safety of children in schools, a case in Pune has come to light where a three year old boy was mercilessly beaten up by tuition teacher. He was beaten so brutally that even after three days of the incident, the swelling on his face has not subsided.  The incident took place in Pimple Saudagar area on September 11. However police lodged the case against the teacher only on Wednesday night.

Based on the complaint of the parents of the boy, police have arrested the teacher who has been identified as Bhagyashri Pillay. Police have slapped charges of voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means under section 324 of Indian Penal Code and section 75 of Juvenile Justice Act 2015.  The family of the boy resides in the same locality where Pillay stays in Pimple Saudagar area. The parents of the boy are labourers and they had started sending their son to Pillay's house thinking that he would learn from her.

Senior inspector Ajay Chandkhede, in charge of Sangvi police station told DNA, "On Monday the boy had gone to Pillay's house. When his parents returned home, they saw that the face of the boy had swollen badly. When they asked the boy, he told them that the teacher hit him with wooden scale on his hand, back and head."

Looking at the condition of the boy, parents reached Sangvi police station to lodge complaint against the teacher. However, according to boy's parents, police did not registered the complaint immediately, instead they were sent to Sassoon hospital.

Police officials claimed that the parents were in two minds whether to give complaint or not as the tuition teacher had agreed to pay for the treatment of the boy.  "The parents decided to lodge the complaint on Wednesday and as soon as they approached us, we registered the offence against the teacher. We have also sent the boy for medical examination," Chandkhede added.   Following the complaint, Pillay was arrested and she was produced before the court where she has been remanded police custody for one day.
