Shocking! 5 members of Mumbai businessman’s family joined ISIS, says report

Five members of a Mumbai-based businessman's family have reportedly joined the dreaded terror outfit, Islamic State.

According to Times of India's report, a 26-year-old Ashfaque Ahmed has left the country along with his wife, infant daughter and two cousins.

"This is shocking. Four members of an extended family were inclined to join the banned outfit. We are questioning preacher Mohammed Haneef, now in crime branch custody, about his role in instigating Ashfaque and others to join IS," a crime branch officer told the daily.

Ahmed's cousins Mohammed Siraj and  Ejaz Rehman, who have gone along with him, are a businessman and a medical practitioner respectively.

The report says that Ashfaque's youngest brother received a message on his mobile, saying he had migrated to IS territory and did not want to come back. "Take care of mother and father," the message read.

In his complaint, Abdul Majeed had said that Haneef, a Kerala school teacher who travelled to Syria with his son Ashfaque, was the one who 'instigated his son to join IS.'

Majeed has also blamed Haneef for 'brainwashing' Ashfaque and had told the police that there were visible changes in his son's behaviour.

 "He stopped listening to music, watching television, changed his clothing style and started sporting a beard. The drastic changes and the people he met had the family worried," Majeed told police.

Mohammed Hanif, who hails from Kambalakkad in Wayanad, was taken into custody from Panur on August 14. He had reportedly taken classes for 11 of the 21 persons from Kerala who are missing and are suspected to have joined the Islamic State.
