Shivraj Singh Chauhan takes oath as Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister

Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar also attended the ceremony along with newly elected Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Saturday took oath as Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh for the third consecutive time.

The swearing in ceremony was held at Jambooree Maidan around noon here. Madhya Pradesh governor Ram Naresh Yadav administered the oath of office and secrecy to Singh.

The ceremony was attended by several senior BJP leaders including party’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, and, party patriarch L.K. Advani. Senior leader of the Shiv Sena and Shiromani Akali Dal also attended the ceremony.

Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar also attended the ceremony along with newly elected Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh.

Chouhan had led his party in the assembly elections to a spectacular tally of 165 seats in the 230-member assembly, 22 seats more than last time.

The Congress suffered a huge defeat with its tally coming down to 58 from 71 seats. The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) got four seats and independents three.
