Shiv Sena youth wing leader shot at in Punjab

In a suspected case of road rage, the Kapurthala district chief of Shiv Sena's youth wing was shot at and injured tonight on National Highway 1 Phagwara district in Punjab, police said.

Sumit Bhandari was returning home in his car along with three others after closing his food outlet at Lovely Professional University in Chaheru when a vehicle allegedly hit his car and sped away, party spokesperson Vipin Sharma said.

They chased the vehicle and intercepted it at Sugar mill crossing following which the vehicle's occupant reportedly fired 3 to 5 rounds, of which one hit Bhandari's thigh, Sharma said.

The accused was arrested and identified as Raj Kumar Basi, a resident of Jalandhar, Phagwara SP Ashwani Kumar said, adding Bhandari has been hospitalised. The SP said a case has been registered in this connection.
