Despite being allies in the Centre and the state, the internecine sniping between the Shiv Sena and the BJP is continuing unabated.

A day after the Narendra Modi-led government completed a year in office, the Sena, which refrained from making an editorial comment on this in its mouthpiece Saamna, criticised the Devendra Fadnavis-led dispensation in Maharashtra on Wednesday.

"What can be done if the investment from the state is moving to the neighbouring state (Gujarat) and the neighbouring chief minister (Anandiben Patel) is coming to Mumbai to woo industrialists? Fadnavis must do something about this," said an editorial in the Sena organ, which has party president Uddhav Thackeray as the editor and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut as the executive editor.

It referred to central government offices being moved out of Mumbai and lamented that the chief minister had failed to take a strong stance on the issue. The Sena also criticised the BJP for its insistence on erecting the controversial 9,900MW Jaitapur nuclear power project. "When destructive nuclear power plants world over are being closed down, the government is preparing to put Konkan and Maharashtra on the nuclear reactor permanently and destroy the lives of the people, agriculture and employment," said the editorial, while referring to the party's opposition to the project.

It, however, said Modi needed more time to bring about a transformation in the country. "But the Modi government has just completed a year in office and it is not easy to effect a change in a country of 125 crore people in just one year. The prime minister has warmed up well now and in the coming four years, he will pay well," the Sena said.

On Fadnavis's statement that the BJP's decision to snap ties with the Sena before the state assembly polls had helped it (BJP) understand its strength, the Sena said, "In some places, people fell for superficial make-up rather than work."
