The Lok Janshakti Party (LJP), an ally of NDA, on Saturday appealed to the Shiv Sena to understand the "reality" of the current political situation in Maharashtra and said it should not be "obstinate" on conditions for joining the state government.

"Shiv Sena should understand the reality and not be obstinate on conditions for joining the Devendra Fadnavis government," LJP President and Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan told reporters.

"BJP won 122 seats on its own and NCP of Sharad Pawar has already extended unconditional support to the party in Maharashtra...Shiv Sena should understand the reality," Paswan said.

Asked about the LJP strategy for the coming Assembly polls in Jharkhand and Jammu & Kashmir, Paswan said his party had always worked for unity among partners and for this it extended support to the BJP in Haryana and Maharashtra Assembly elections.

Stating that he had already held talks with BJP chief Amit Shah on the coming polls in the two states, Paswan said he would not press for number of seats, but certainly would request BJP to allow its "strong" candidates to contest in seats where the saffron party did not win last time or got small number of votes. Paswan said he would be visiting Jammu and Kashmir for two days from tomorrow to discuss election with party workers there.

He appreciated Prime Minister Narendra Modi for announcing compensation for 1984 anti-Sikh riots. Asked to comment on the demand of Congress leader Digvijaya Singh that victims of 2002 Gujrat riots should also be given similar compensation, Paswan said the two were separate cases.

"About Gujarat riots, I do not know what the state government has done for the victims. For that I'll not comment," he said.
