Shiv Sena has expressed reservation over the recent Supreme Court order barring display of photos of leaders in government advertisements. An editorial in Sena's official organ Saamna on Friday said this amounted to interfering in the government's affairs and encroaching on the powers of the legislature.

"By constantly meddling in the affairs of the government, the Courts will lose their reputation," it said. Decrying "personality cult" as an anti-thesis of democracy, the Supreme Court had on Wednesday barred publication of photos of leaders in government advertisements except those of the President, Prime Minister and the Chief Justice of India.

While issuing guidelines for government advertisements, the apex court rejected the Centre's stand that judiciary should not encroach into government policies and executive decisions.
