PM Narendra Modi turned into a guide for Japanese PM Shinzo Abe and his wife Akie Abe when they visited Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad after their arrival for a two-day stay in Gujarat.

In the peaceful and serene atmosphere, Modi took them to Hriday Kunj, the residence of Mahatma Gandhi and Kasturba in the premise of ashram. Modi then explained Bapu's satyagraha and his freedom struggle against British rule to the Abes. They then paid a floral tribute to Mahatma Gandhi's statue in the ashram.

Then Modi took them to the side of Sabarmati river in the ashram and showcased the new development in the form of the riverfront project made during his rule in state. Abe and his wife were charmed by a carved wooden Chabutara placed here.

Later, they moved to the desk of visitor's book, where Abe wrote a short message — "Message of love and peace from Shinzo Abe." Here, PM Modi gifted a book to Abe, "My Experiments With Truth", an autobiography of Mahatma Gandhi.

PM Modi also visited the Sidi Saiyyed ni Jali with the Abes, a mosque built by Sidi Saiyyed, who was a slave of Sultan Ahmed Shah. The structure has 10 screen windows (jalis) on the side and rear arches.
