Shelter Homes Horror: I am afraid for life, says Brajesh Thakur main accused

Brajesh Thakur, the main accused in the alleged rape and torture of at least 34 girls at a shelter home in Muzaffarpur run by his NGO, expressed a threat to his life on Saturday be he was lodged with Maoist rebels. The fears were expressed by Thakur during his hearing, which was held via video conferencing from Khudiram Bose Central Jail, where he is currently lodged. A source said Thakur told the judge that he strongly feared for his life in the jail.

However, the court refused to interfere in the matter saying his security was the jail's responsibility. Thakur is presently lodged in a high security cell after being shifted from the jail hospital ward, where he was since June last week.

The prison officials had increased his security after an attack on him on during his last visit to the special POCSO court in Muzaffarpur, where a woman had succeeded in throwing black ink on him breaking the security cordon. In a related development, the police is also probing Manisha Dayal, the owner of NGO which ran Aasra Home in Patna, where two women died and others took ill, for misappropriation of funds via an NGO in Lakhisarai district.

Sources said Dayal's NGO had taken the contract for planting tress under MGNREGA, but it forged master rolls to fudge the funds. The source added that the police is likely to interrogate her accountant in connection with the cases.
