Sheila Dikshit, Harsh Vardhan and 266 others file nominations

Seventy-five-year-old Dikshit, accompanied by her son and MP Sandeep Dikshit and daughter Latika, filed her nomination papers from New Delhi assembly constituency which she has been representing for last 15 years.

Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, BJP's aspirant for the top post Harsh Vardhan and 266 other candidates including around 20 sitting MLAs and senior leaders of major parties today filed their nominations for the December 4 Delhi assembly polls.

Seventy-five-year-old Dikshit, accompanied by her son and MP Sandeep Dikshit and daughter Latika, filed her nomination papers from New Delhi assembly constituency which she has been representing for last 15 years.

"I am confident that Congress will retain power in Delhi," she told reporters after filing her nomination.

BJP contender from the seat and former Delhi unit chief of the party Vijender Gupta also filed his nomination from the New Delhi constituency. AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal is the other prominent candidate in the seat.

BJP's Chief Ministerial nominee Vardhan filed his nomination papers for Krishna Nagar constituency which he has been representing for last 20 years. The former Health Minister was accompanied by party's Delhi unit president Vijay Goel, senior party leader V K Malhotra and a large number of BJP workers.

As many as 403 candidates have so far filed nominations for the assembly polls after nomination process started on November 9.

Ministers in Dikshit cabinet A K Walia (Laxmi Nagar), Harun Yusuf (Ballimaran), Ramakant Goswami (Rajendra Nagar), also filed their nominations. Assembly speaker Yoganand Shastri filed his nomination from Mehrauli.

Sitting MLAs Arvinder Singh (Deoli), Naseeb Singh (Viswas Nagar), Anil Kumar (Patparganj), S P Ratawl (Karol Bagh), Prem Singh (Ambedkar Nagar), Bipin Sharma (Rohtas), Karan Singh Tanwar (Delhi Cantt), Kanwar Karan Singh (Model Town), Rajesh Lilothia (Patel Nagar, Kulwant Rana (Rithala) and Narendra Nath (Shahadra) also filed their nominations.

Many independents as well those belonging to Bahujan Samaj Party, NCP and Shiromani Akali Dal too registered their candidature.

The office of the Delhi Chief Electoral Officer said 268 candidates belonging to over two dozen parties, like AAP, Congress, BJP, BSP, and CPI, JD (U) along with independents, filed nominations today in nine electoral districts of Delhi. EC received 431 applications from the 268 candidates today as a few of them from BJP, BSP, Congress, AAP as well as independents and other parties filed multiple nominations.

On the occasion of Muhharam on Friday, filing of nomination will not take place tomorrow. November 16 is the last date for filing nominations.
