A supplementary charge sheet against Peter Mukherjea sheds more light to the Sheena Bora case as investigators believe this was a conspiracy
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday filed a supplementary charge sheet against Peter Mukerjea, accused in the Sheena Bora murder case. It said that Sheena's mother and prime accused, Indrani Mukerjea, kept Peter, her husband, updated on the phone over the selection of spot for the disposal of Sheena's body.
The CBI claimed that Peter "very strategically" tried to keep his son Rahul and daughter Vidhi, from an earlier marriage, away from Sheena, since the murder and the post-murder plan had to be executed in a certain way.
The 90-page document by the CBI has 13 witness statements, including one of Mikhail Bora, Indrani's son. Mikhail and Sheena are Indrani's children from her first husband Siddhartha Das.
The CBI did not disclose the statement of one witness, a lady, to protect her identity. The charge sheet claims that oral and documentary evidence, collected during further investigations, substantiate the charges of a conspiracy, leading to the abduction and murder of Sheena Bora and the role played by each of the accused.
The prime witness in the charge sheet is Mikhail Bora and Shyamvar Rai. Mikhail explained as to how another conspiracy was hatched by Indrani and her ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna, in connivance with their driver Shyamvar Rai, to allegedly eliminate him the same day.
Mikhail, in his statement, said how he and Sheena were disowned by Indrani right from the start and Indrani never accepted him as her son. On his repeated request, when Indrani allowed Mikhail to come to Mumbai, she introduced him to the servants as her brother and Sheena as her sister.
The charge sheet further mentions about the email, which Peter had written to Rahul, asking him not to be in contact with Sheena, whom he was dating.
An email dated May 29, 2012, from Peter to Rahul reads: "Initially, I was okay with your relationship (with Sheena), as I figured that due to economic pressures, it would break anyway as Sheena would want more from life and that she would tell you this and leave you if she didn't get it after a while..."
The charge sheet further discloses how Rahul in an email to Sheena, on June 19, 2012, mentioned "I do not know what the heck is going on. People are still calling me with their worry. P and I are still giving me bakwaas and warning me about being shot or beaten up."
The CBI said that after Sheena's murder, Indrani kept Peter informed on phone about the selection of spot for disposing her body and recce conducted for the same.
The murder case
Sheena (24) was strangled in a car on April 24, 2012, in Mumbai, allegedly by her mother Indrani, Indrani's former husband Sanjeev Khanna and her former driver Shyamvar Rai. Sheena was engaged to Rahul, son of media honcho Peter Mukerjea, Indrani's husband. The 24-year-old was allegedly strangled in a car and her body was burnt and dumped at a forest in Raigad, about 84 km from Mumbai. Her purported remains were found a month later and buried by the police, which treated the body as unclaimed
