Sheena Bora Murder Case: Kolkata police offers to hep Mumbai Police

Kolkata Police today said it was ready to help its Mumbai counterpart to probe co-accused Sanjeev Khanna's role in Sheena Bora murder case if its help was sought in the matter. "We had helped them (Mumbai Police) in arresting Khanna, the former husband of the prime accused Indrani Mukerjea, after a request from the senior police officers of Mumbai Police. We will surely help Mumbai Police if they want us to help them in any manner in this case," a senior Kolkata Police officer told PTI.

Kolkata Police had spotted Khanna, who had been untraceable for a long time, at his friend's residence in Alipore locality of the city after a call from Mumbai police chief on Wednesday.
"We had acted quickly in nabbing Khanna. He was initially untraceable, but our sleuths picked him up within few hours after receiving a request from Mumbai Police," he said.
Khanna was spotted through his mobile tower location, he said, adding an action plan was prepared to enter the house where he was hiding.

The police did not want him to be alert and escape, he said.
Talking of the modus operandi in apprehending Khanna, he said that two Kolkata Police officers disguised as cablemen (those offering set top box services) visited his friend's home on Wednesday afternoon.
The Kolkata Police officers had found Khanna in one of the bedrooms on the ground floor of the building on Belvedere Road watching the Bora murder case on news channels.

Five police officers, who were waiting outside the residence, were called in by the members in the house.
"There was no resistance from Khanna. He was served an arrest memo and was brought to Alipore police station," he said.

A thorough background checking of Khanna was also done on the request of Mumbai Police to ensure whether he had any former criminal record or not, he said. "This was done on request of the Mumbai Police to have a look into Khanna's past on whether he has any involvement in any criminal activity or not. And that too helped in their investigation into the murder," the officer said.
