'Patriotism must come from heart,' Tharoor said on Wednesday while backing the apex court's obeservation that hinted at a modification in the rule that require the national anthem to be played before every movie screening.
Taking the similar line, Haasan took Twitter on Tuesday and said that his patriotism must not be tested.
“Singapore plays it's national anthem every midnight.Likewise do so on DD. Do not force or test my patriotism at various random places,” Haasan said.
“The reason Singapore crops up in arguments is because it is a benovelent dictatorship according to some critics. Do we we want that. No pls,” the National Award winning actor said in another tweet.
The Supreme Court on October 23 had said that the government should take a call on the rule.
The top court said that the national anthem rule that come into effect last year can be modified.
"What is stopping you from amending the Flag Code? You can amend it and say where to play national anthem and where it can't be done. Nowadays, the anthem is played during matches, tournaments and even Olympics where half of the crowd does not understand its meaning," Justice DY Chandrachud had said during the hearing.
The three-member bench that included Chief Justice Dipak Misra said: "You (Centre) take a call. Government should not show any reservation to the amendment as the court would not allow it to shoot from its shoulders".
