NCP leader and Union Minister Sharad Pawar on Sunday praised UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi for not accepting any post in the Government and said, `the history would take note of this.'
Pawar was speaking at a function organized by Hiralal Malu felicitation committee at Mahesh cultural complex in Pune. The committee had organized the function in which Pawar felicitated Mahesh Cooperative Bank founder Hiralal Malu for completing 75 years. In his speech Acharya Govind Devgiri had lauded Pawar for his resolve against person of foreign to become Prime Minister of the country. Taking a cue from this point, Pawar said, `a few of us had acted in this regard but all of us later understood that Soniyaji showed magnanimity by deciding not to accept any post of power in the Government and the history would certainly take not of this.'
While referring to Reserve Bank of India decision to put restrictions on withdrawals from Rupee Bank Pawar said that he had suggested three months back to look in to the affairs of Rupee Bank but his advice was ignored. He said that now it has appeared in the news papers and Mahesh Bank is unlike Rupee Bank and has zero per cent NPA (non-performing assets) while Rupee bank has 14 per cent NPA. While lauding the Maheshwari community for its contribution towards fodder for cattle camps, Pawar said that the community now should think of adopting drought prone villages.
