Sharad Pawar backs demand for CBI probe

NCP chief Sharad Pawar, on Thursday asked prime minister Narendra Modi to initiate a CBI probe into Gopinath Munde's death to bring out 'facts' and assuage the feelings of his supporters. In a letter to Modi, Pawar said the "sad and untimely" demise of Munde has left many people shocked and dismayed, specially his supporters."

The sentiment had also been echoed by Maharashtra BJP president Devendra Phadnavis and Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray, he said, adding: "It's my view that their demand for CBI probe may be considered and accepted by the government.

Nitin Gadkari, in the meanwhile, said prime minister Narendra Modi would decide the course of action on the issue. Asked about Munde's supporters and leaders of different parties demanding CBI investigation, Gadkari said: "Last nigh, I spoke to the Prime Minister and Munde's family. It's the PM who will decide on the proper course of action on the matter."
