Taking a dig at the Congress for questioning Hindutva icon Veer Savarkar’s patriotism, BJP president Amit Shah on Friday said that future generations will not spare the party for this.

He was addressing the inaugural session of the 29th Akhil Bharatiya Savarkar Sahitya Sammelan at Gadkari Rangayatan in Thane. Swatantryaveer Savarkar Sahitya Abhyas Mandal and Savarkar Pratishthan in Thane are hosting the literary meet based on Savarkar’s literature.

Underlining various aspects of Veer Savarkar’s life, Shah said that the multi-faceted Savarkar was one who connected culture with the word Hindu and Hindutva.

He said Savarkar was the only revolutionary in the world who was punished with two life sentences at a time.

Criticising the erstwhile UPA Government for removing the flame from the Andaman memorial of Savarkar, Shah said that after the BJP Government came to power again, he has ensured that there is eternal flame at the Savarkar memorial in Andaman Cellular Jail. Shah said that as the time passes by, Savarkar is becoming more and relevant since he was a visionary.

In his address, the president of the literay meet, Ramesh Patange said that it would not be enough to award Bharat Ratna to Savarkar since his soul would rest in peace only if Sindhu river becomes part of India.

Savarkar Pratishthan president Vidyadhar Thanekar in his opening remarks demanded awarding Bharat Ratna post-humously to Veer Savarkar. Minister Eknath Shinde also echoed the sentiments and said that if Shah puts his word for the same, it would be done. Without committing the same, Shah in his speech said, ‘’Savarkar was only person in the country whom crores of people have given the prefix of Veer without any resolution in Parliament.”

Savarkar does not need any award since he was beyond all these awards, he said.’

Guardian Minister Eknath Shinde, Minister of State Ravindra Chavan, reception committee chairman Sunil Sathe, Pratishthan working president Ravindra Sathe, literary meet president Ramesh Patange, Rashtriya Vimukta Jan-Jaati Aayog president Bhikuji Idate, MP Vinay Sahasrabuddhe, Savarkar Sahitya Abhyas Mandal President Shankar Ggokhale were among those present on the occasion.
