Seven members of family drown in Ganga river

Seven members of a family including a newly-wed couple and a two-year-old girl on Friday drowned in the Ganga river after a boat they were riding on capsized, police said. The deceased were identified as Deepak Pal (25) and his wife Chandni (20), his mother Durgawati (50), sister Janki Devi (25), brother Dileep (19), Prabhawati (45) and a two-year-old girl, Inspector Kotwali Ashok Kumar Tiwari said.

Five others were injured in the accident, who were rushed to the hospital, he said.

All victims were residents of Taranpur village and had gone to perform puja after wedding of Deepak and Chandani on June 11, he said. The boat capsized in the river due to strong winds and bad weather, he added.
