Seven political workers- four belonging to CPI-M and three to ruling Trinamool Congress - were injured in an incident of violence at Belghoria in the outskirts of Kolkata.
Five persons have been arrested in connection with the incident which took place on Saturday night when workers of both parties were putting up buntings and flags after campaigning came to an end in the area, police said on Sunday.
Police said the CPI-M party office in the area was attacked and vandalised, while stones were thrown at the nearby TMC office according to FIRS lodged by the two parties. CPI-M workers blocked busy arterial BT Road for sometime this morning. TMC workers followed suit afterwards.
The blockades were lifted after the police persuaded the party workers. The area falls under the prestigious Dum Dum constituency which goes to the polls in the fifth and last phase tomorrow. Among the injured is the state president of CPI-M's youth wing DYFI, Sayandeb Mitra, the police said.
Three persons were arrested on Saturday and another two on Sunday. Of the five two were named in the FIR filed by CPI-M.
