The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today, in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, working BJP President JP Nadda, and other leaders, kickstarted its programme to observe a 'seva saptah' (service week) in honour of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday on September 17.

Union Home Minister and BJP President Amit Shah, along with working president JP Nadda and other leaders flagged off the service week starting today, at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi. The Home Minister was seen with other senior BJP leaders like JP Nadda, Vijay Goel, and Vijender Gupta sweeping the floor in AIIMS as part of the party's 'seva saptah' campaign launched to celebrate PM Modi's birthday.

Shah also met children and several other patients admitted in AIIMS and gifted them fruits, wishing their speedy recovery. "The whole government machinery will throw its weight behind the 'Seva Saptah'" the Home Minister said, "Zila Panchayat, gram panchayat, municipalities, municipal corporations, Taluka panchayat wherever the people have given us power, the crores of BJP workers will be observing Seva Saptah through plantation drive, cleanliness drive and by serving the poor and needy."

He further noted, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi has dedicated his whole life working for the poor and nation, therefore it is only appropriate that we honour him by launching the Seva Saptah." He later took to Twitter to appeal to the countrymen that in this 'Seva Week' from 14 to 20 September 2019, the people of the country should take the pledge of 'Sanitation only service, single-use plastic, water conservation and promotion' and participate in this campaign.

A number of social initiatives have been planned for this duration, including health and eye check-ups, blood donation camps, and other medical initiatives. Besides these, several exhibitions displaying the Prime Minister's developmental projects in the social sector will also be displayed by party cadres across districts.

Earlier, BJP National General Secretary Arun Singh had said, "If there is anybody who can solve problems faced by the poor people in the country, it is Narendra Modi," adding that the party had decided to dedicate September 14-20 exclusively to the service of the nation to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday.
