From filing online petition to launching door-to-door campaign for optimising the social media outreach, Hurriyat hardliners led by Syed Ali Shah Geelani are pulling out all stops to make its "Million March" successful in a bid to counter Prime Minister Narendra Modi's rally in Srinagar on November 7.

An advocate and his associate have launched an online petition urging chief minister Mufti Mohommad Sayeed to allow political spaces to both Prime Minister and Syed Ali Shah Geelani's rally on November 7.

"We appeal to the conscious citizens of the world to support the petition for providing democracy a chance in Kashmir which has been politically eroded on ground in Kashmir since 1947," reads the online petition.

Geelani-led Hurriyat Conference held a meeting of its Majlis-e-Shura (Advisory Council) in which all the 24 constituents participated on Saturday. It was decided that the leaders will span across the Jammu and Kashmir to mobilise support for the proposed march.

"Our leaders will go village to village and door to door to mobilise support for the March. It will be a historic day because it will prove on whose side the people are," said Ayaz Akbar, spokesman of Geelani-led Hurriyat.

Hurriyat hardliners also decided to maximise its social media outreach to mobilise the masses particularly youth to join the March. Geelani urged the youth to publicize "Challo, Challo...TRC Challo" slogan in the form of wall paintings, graffiti and posters. Youth were also asked to upload these slogans on the internet and social networking sites.

Geelani said that the Million March will refresh the memories of the mass gatherings of 2008. "All the Kashmiris living abroad are requested to organise small gatherings at their respective places in support of the march," he said.

Hurriyat Conference is also sending a formal letter to the deputy commissioner Srinagar seeking permission to hold the Million March at TRC grounds. The venue of the separatist rally is just 200 meters away from where Modi is scheduled to hold its rally at Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium on Saturday.

"We are confident that the authorities will grant us permission. We will take all the responsibility for peaceful and disciplined march. In case the permission is not granted Majlis-e-Shura will sit again and decide future course of action", said Akbar.

Jammu and Kashmir government on the other side said Modi's visit will give fresh impetus to 'Agenda of Alliance': of PDP-BJP alliance in the state.

"People in the state are expecting the Prime Minister to make tangible confidence building measures aimed at addressing the political and economic challenges confronting Jammu and Kashmir", said Haseeb Drabu, J&K minister for finance, labour, employment and culture.
