Senior journalist KJ Singh and his mother were found dead in Mohali on Saturday.

Singh was found with his throat slit with a sharp-edged weapon.

Singh's 92-year-old mother was allegedly strangulated.

The house was ransacked and things were missing, the police said.

Mohali SSP has reached the house. Initial reports suggest that cops suspect it to be a case of murder. "There was injury marks on their necks," Mohali Deputy Superintendent of PoliceAlam Vijay Singh said. Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh has directed DGP Suresh Arora to form an SIT to probe the murder case.

Singh began his career with the Indian Express. After a brief stint with the Times Group, he worked with The Tribune.

At present, he was not associated with any media organisation.

It is still not clear whether it was just a case of burglary or it was a pre-meditated murder for some reason.

Shiromani Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal was among the first to react to the alleged murder.

He took to Twitter and expressed his shock over the incident.

It was the third murder of a journalist in this month. A few days back, Santanu Bhowmick, a journalist from 'Dinrat' news channel was kidnapped and killed in West Tripura district.

On September 5, renowned journalist Gauri Lankesh was shot dead by unidentified assailants at her residence in Bangalore.
