Senior bank official gets three years in jail in DA case

A special CBI court in Madhya Pradesh has sentenced an SBI Deputy Manager to three years in prison in a disproportionate assets case.

The court in Jabalpur also slapped a fine Rs one lakh on Balmiki Prasad Dwivedi.

The CBI charge sheet had alleged that "Dwivedi between 2001 and June 9, 2009, while functioning as a public servant in the capacities of systems administrator, field officer, Manager (Personal banking division) and Deputy Manager at SBI at Sidhi, Ambikapur and Hanumana branch in Rewa, was found in possession of assets disproportionate to his known sources of income in his name and in the names of his family members to the extent of Rs 62,58,324 (approx).

"The trial court found the accused guilty and convicted him under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act," a CBI spokesperson said here.
