Seminar on Blue Whale game, organised at Maharani’s College, turned into a sermon on ‘acceptable’ women’s behaviour, from none other than ACP Ashok Nagar Ramgopal Pareek, who was invited as chief guest to appraise the students of the harmful repercussions of the game on Friday.

“Girls go to late night parties, their dress code these days is just one piece and they drink an unknown amount of alcohol,” said Pareek with complete hand gesticulations to elaborate his points.  This is highly unacceptable. This shows the bias the police have while dealing with crime against women, said a senior teacher at Maharani’s College who did not wish to be named. First, they need gender sensitization workshops, she added.

Remain inside the boundaries set by the society in order to live a happy life, Pareek said to the undergraduate students who were gathered to hear about blue whale game. Getting an audience, the police officer was unstoppable with his pearls of wisdom to the students.

“Go where you want to go, but be careful. Cab drivers pick up girls based on their appearance. They ask one to sit in the front seat and drive off with them. They later pay them Rs5000 to Rs6000 to keep shut.”

Then there was a session on the importance of keeping the phone charged at all times. “Your life depends on the phone. This device is very important, keep it charged at all times,” he added. The policeman had by then forgotten that the blue whale menace is what he was to discuss, and that too is on the phone.

Cyber security with ethics was next on his agenda, reading out from his copious notes “Do not take mobiles as gifts from ‘unknown people’. That equipment is controlled by the giver. It leaks your personal information.

Maharani’s College had organised the seminar as part of its initiative to deal with the menace of blue whale among youth.

The lecture may not have cleared doubts about the game, but it left no doubt about the need for gender sensitization among the police force.
