The selection of chiefs of the Central Information Commission (CIC) and the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) has been deferred to the first week of June, as per reports.

A meeting to discuss this issue was held at the official 7, Race Course Road residence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday. As per sources, another meeting will take place in the first week of June.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Minister of State for PMO Jitendra Singh and leader of the opposition in Lok Sabha Mallikarjuna Kharge were believed to have attended the meeting. According to earlier reports, the names of Information Commissioners in CIC and Vigilance Commissioners in CVC were to be finalised during today's meeting.

The post of the Chief Information Commissioner has been lying vacant for over nine months after Rajiv Mathur's term ended in August last year. There is also a vacancy of three Information Commissioners in the CIC while previous Central Vigilance Commissioner Pradeep Kumar completed his term in September last year.
