State police has been on high alert after it received intelligence inputs about a possible terror attack by four suspects holding Afghan passports. Acting on inputs from the Intelligence Bureau, the state Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) alerted all Special Operation Group units (SOG) in Gujarat on August 17, about four suspected-terrorists having infiltrated the state. A photo of one of the men, suspected to be the leader of the group, has also been circulated. Originally from Kunar region of Afghanistan, 'Zaaki' is also said to have a Pakistani identity card.
All SOG units have been told to collect and verify information about every Afghani national living in the state since July 15, 2019. Areas populated by citizens of Afghanistan are also being scanned and surveilled heavily. Additional security personnel have been deployed at borders and checkpoints, and intensive searches are underway.
