Security stepped up in Jaipur after intelligence report about possible terrorist strike

Security has been beefed up in Jaipur following recent intelligence inputs that Jaipur was among the important cities of the country, which may be targeted by terrorists in coming days.

Policemen in plain cloths have been deployed at important places like Govind Devji temple, Birla Mandir along with shopping malls and other crowded places. Regular checking of vehicles is also conducted at crucial points.

"We have stepped up the security in the city in the last few days and its being further tightened. Regular checking, vigilance and deployment of policemen are the part of the arrangements," Jaipur Police Commissioner Srinivas Rao Janga told PTI. Besides, all other necessary steps are being taken to ensure the safety, Janga said.

Various teams have been formed to conduct checking at important points, shopping malls, religious places and other crowded places, DCP East K Rastradeep said.

"There were regular inputs from intelligence agencies about the threats to security and hence it has been made tighter. Policemen in plain cloths have also been deployed at some places," he said.

Jaipur, capital of Rajasthan and a prominent tourist destination has several iconic places like Hawa Mahal, Amber fort, Govid Devji temple and Birla Mandir apart from Gaurav Tower and World Trade Park, the shopping malls which are frequently visited by tourists. The city was targeted by terrorists in May 2008 when serial blasts left over 60 people dead and 150 injured.
