Senior UP minister Azam Khan has embarrassed the Akhilesh Yadav government once again. This time, he has voiced a threat to his life and even said that the state government would be responsible if anything happens to him. His security has been beefed up since Monday.
Azam was in Delhi on Sunday and had got upset over the lax manner of his security personnel. Sources said he complained to UP CM Akhilesh Yadav on phone that his security was being compromised and that his life was in danger. He sent away all the securitymen and is reported to have told Akhilesh that his government shall be held responsible should anything happen to him.
Sources said Akhilesh had immediately directed the Ghaziabad SSP to meet Azam and sort out the matter.
However, Azam kept the SSP waiting all day on Monday and left for Lucknow without meeting him. A source close to Azam said the minister was apprehensive that some “communal-minded elements” were after his life after the recent Muzzaffarnagar riots. This is not the first time Azam has embarrassed the government or his party leadership. He had boycotted the recent Samajwadi Party conclave in Agra.
Before that, he had criticized party chief Mulayam for meeting VHP leader Ashok Singhal.
