An ex-soldier working as a private security guard was allegedly roughed up and assaulted after he stopped a sub-divisional magistrate from entering premises of a project in Agra, sparking tension in the area with villagers demanding dismissal of the official.

The video of the incident went viral on Saturday after which hundreds of villagers in Etmadpur tehsil of Agra held a 'mahapanchayat' this afternoon which sought action against SDM J P Singh for allegedly roughing up and misbehaving with security guard Sheoraj Singh Yadav of Nagla Ram Baksh.

Yadav claimed that he had stopped a vehicle in which the SDM and his associates were sitting from entering the project site without permission and asked them to first inform the Assistant Manager.

"They started abusing me and went to AGM's office....The AGM called me and as soon as I was inside, he closed the door and started hitting. The AGM locked me in the room for five minutes and beat me up. When I came out, the other workers gathered here. The AGM then came out. I was dragged inside a car and they started hitting me again," Yadav said.

An FIR has been filed against the security guard on the complaint of SDM at the Etmadpur thana police. A complaint was also filed by the guard with the district magistrate on Friday.

A large number of Samajwadi Party leaders were present at the mahapanchayat today and sources said that the Chief Minister's office has been informed about the incident. The mahapanchayat also demanded an investigation against the alleged disproportionate assets of the official.

The opposition parties attacked the Samajwadi Party government over the issue.

"Bureaucrats in Uttar Pradesh behave like servants of Samajwadi Party politcians. The security guard was only doing his duty. What was his fault," Bahujan Samaj Party's Vijay Bahadur Pathak said.
Congress leader Akhilesh Pratap Singh said the SDM should not have taken the law into his hands.

"Stern action should be taken and no one must be spared. He should stay within the law," he said.
