India will continue to give a "befitting reply" and its action will speak for itself, the Army's vice chief said today, a day after four of its personnel were killed in heavy shelling by Pakistan along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Pakistani Army has been supporting infiltration by terrorists along the border, Army Vice Chief Sarath Chand said.

"We will continue with our process of giving a befitting reply," he told reporters.

"(Our) action will speak for itself," Chand added in response to a question on yesterday's incident.

Four soldiers including a 22-year-old captain were killed and another injured when Pakistan Army resorted to unprovoked firing and shelling on Indian forward posts in Bhimber Gali sector along the Line of Control (LoC) on Sunday.

A BSF sub-inspector (SI) was also injured in shelling and firing by Pakistani troops late last night in the Keri forward area in Rajouri.

Pakistan used missiles to target India’s forward posts on the LoC in Rajouri district of Jammu division in the Sunday attack, the Indian Army has said.

"Pakistan Army initiated unprovoked and indiscriminate firing of Small arms, automatics, mortars and missiles from 3.30 pm (on Sunday)  in Bhimber Gali sector along the Line of Control (LoC)", said Colonel NN Joshi, defence spokesman at Northern Command Headquarters.

Sources said the Pakistan Army is using anti-tank guided missiles (ATGM) aka Bakthar Shikan to target the Indian forward positions on the LoC.

Pakistan is also using heavy caliber long range weapons including 120 mm mortars, which has a range of seven kilometers, and 82 mm mortars, having range of 4.5 kilometers, to inflict maximum damage deep into the civilian areas.
