Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar has appealed to all security forces deployed in the state to be more 'proactive' and work in coordination with the people to fight against the militants.

"Police has to be more proactive along with the central paramilitary force BSF which is deployed in the border has to be more alert and active. Tripura police, TSR and BSF jointly with the public support if go for counter insurgency than as earlier the situation is far more tough and complicated than militancy can be totally wiped out," Sarkar said at the inauguration of the Police Week celebration at the Monoranjan Debbarma memorial stadium.

He said the state police along with the TSR and central security forces had jointly stood against the militants and weakened them but there should not be any room for complacency. Sarkar added that in Tripura, militants have become weak and are trying to revive. Of late militants attacked border guards and succeeded in killing BSF personnel and civilians.

"Those who have been kidnapped among them except one all have been rescued. One who is still there in their captivity in Bangladesh we are trying to get him back. Still now in the bordering areas the militants are still trying to recruit people by fear, misguiding or by luring. The people are being used to collect money, goods and other necessary things for the militants," said Sarkar.

"We also have to face this effort of the militants to revive their activities and gradually bring a situation to totally stop their activities," he added.

The Chief Minister stated that militant forces were getting 'aid' from outside as well as within the county to hamper 'peace, development and life and property'.
