Security has been beefed up around the India Security Press and Currency Note Press offices here following alleged threat of an attack on them by banned outfit SIMI, police said today.

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) teams have stepped up the security of both the ISP and CNP after the two government offices received purported letters from Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), threatening to carry out attacks on the premises, two days back, they said.

One of the purported letter was apparently posted from power loom town of Malegaon, while another was dispatched from Nashik Road post office.

In the letters, SIMI activists mentioned that the attacks were planned with an aim to disrupt the country's economy. Taking the threats seriously, the press authorities informed police. At present, around 600 CISF jawans are deployed for security of the two offices.

Upnagar senior police inspector Kondiram Popre told reporters that they have increased patrolling and also asked the press administration to stay vigilant and alert.
