Search for Geeta's parents still on, says Sushma Swaraj

External Affair Minister Sushma Swaraj on Sunday confirmed that the search for Geeta's parents is on and all efforts are being made to ensure that she unites with her family at the earliest.

Geeta, the speech and hearing impaired Indian woman, was living in Pakistan after accidentally crossing the border over a decade ago. "At present, she is staying in Indore. Many more photos have come to us and many have claimed to be her parents. We are sending all the photos to Geeta but she has so far denied. Our search will be on and we would want her to get back to her family," Swaraj told the media here.

"I will be meeting Geeta tomorrow. She had earlier recognised her parents by seeing their photos but after coming here she said they are not her parents. We had given blood samples for DNA test and it did not match," she added. The External Affair Minister further said that one should not politicise humanitarian issues.

" These are humanitarian issues. His (Ramzan) case dates back to October 13, but it came to our notice after Geeta's case was raised. Geeta's case was also old, but it came to notice after the movie 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan'. So, these humanitarian issues should not be mingled with politics," said Swaraj.

Geeta was reportedly just seven or eight years old when she was found sitting alone on the Samjhauta Express by the Pakistan Rangers 15 years ago at the Lahore railway station. The Indian Government had earlier said that Geeta would be handed over to the rightful family only after the DNA test.
