Mukesh Mishra (37), a watchman in Sion English medium school, has been arrested by Antophill police under rape and protection of children from sexual offences Act. He is alleged to have tried to rape a class 2 girl and touched her private parts in the school premises.

The girl was in the school to attend a remedial class between 10am till 12noon. After her classes, she came out of the class and sat near the school entrance where the watchman was sitting. He took her near the watchman's cabin in a corner of the school premises where pre-primary classes are conducted. Three or four children were playing in the premises when Mishra tried to touch the girl's private parts. She resisted, but he kept doing it. He however stopped when children playing in premises came near the girl.

Meanwhile it was time for the afternoon shift and the girl proceeded to her classroom. But during the recess hour, the watchman went into the girl's classroom and kept staring at her.
Anupama Rao (name changed) grandmother of the seven-year-old said: "Like any other day, my granddaughter returned home by 6pm. She went for tuition and later came to my place, which she often comes visiting. There she told one of her cousins what had happened in the school. Then she came near me and started crying. When I asked her the reason, she narrated what the watchman had done. I told her mother about it and she went to the school on Thursday morning."

Ram Shetty, (name changed) father of the girl, said: "On Thursday morning, I confronted the watchman. He admitted to having tried to rape my daughter. He also admitted he had done something similar to two other girls earlier. This is absolutely shameful."

Baljit Narang, principal of the school primary section, said: "I came to know about the incident today. We are sorry for what happened. I immediately spoke to our management and they have decided to deploy only women security guards from tomorrow. We are sharing the CCTV footage with the police for evidence and are ready to give all support to the family. The accused watchman has been in the school only for the last three month. He was earlier a security guard at one of the residential building in the complex where the school is also located. Soon after the incident came to light, our teachers instructed students about 'good touch' and 'bad touch'."

Ashok Dudhe, deputy commissioner of police, Zone IV, said: "We have arrested the accused and he will be produced in court. We have booked under molestation, rape and under various sections of protection of children from sexual offences Act (POCSO)."
