The Muslim Education Institute (MEI) has reinstated the teacher couple who were sacked for having an affair, which could have adverse impact on students.
On their wedding day, Tariq Ahmad Bhat and Sumaya Bashir, both teachers at Muslim Education Institute (MEI), Pampore, were given marching orders over the phone. Ironically, the call was made hours before Tariq was set to leave to bring his bride home to Tral Township of south Kashmir on November 30.
Taking cognizance of the arbitrary decision against the couple, Jammu and Kashmir government went into an overdrive and asked the MEI management to withdraw the termination order forthwith or face the consequences.
"The expulsion order has been withdrawn by the school. Both the parties were present. They (school) also apologised. They said both teachers will come to the school. They will be given the same respect and honour. I have both orders –withdrawal and acceptance –before me", said GM Dar, deputy commissioner of Pulwama.
Principal of the School Tariq Ahmad said the teachers have been reinstated forthwith. "We told them join today. Since tomorrow is Sunday, they will resume their duties on Monday", he said.
On Friday, Jammu and Kashmir State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) had also taken suo moto notice of the reports and directed the director of school education Kashmir and principal of MEI to submit a report in this regard. The SHRC also asked the principal to be personally present in the Commission on December 18, the next date of the hearing in the case.
"While taking cognizance chairperson of SHRC took serious note of it (news reports about sacking of teacher couple) and directed the director education Kashmir and Principal MEI to file report before the commission on Monday.
Besides Principal of the Institute is directed to be present in person on the said date", said the spokesman of SHRC
