Stone pelting between two groups in the wake of suicide committed by a girl following alleged inaction by police to act against eve-teasers prompted clamping of prohibitory orders in town on Friday.

"Prohibitory orders have been imposed under section 144 (of CrPc) in entire town following an incident of stone pelting," Superintendent of Police Aditya Pratap Singh told reporters.

A group of saffron activists was returning after submitting a memorandum to authorities in afternoon after demanding action against those responsible for the suicide when another group engaged them, resulting in hurling of stones from both sides, police said.

Around a month back, the kin of the girl had complained about a group of boys harassing her while going to school. According to family members, police failed to take timely action on their complaint, leading to the suicide.

Singh said, "The girl had committed suicide on Thursday evening due to eve-teasing. On the complaint of her father, the police have filed the case against ten accused and seven of them were already arrested under relevant sections of IPC. We are looking for remaining three persons who are absconding."

The SP has suspended police sub-inspector Gajiwati Pusham for prima facie dereliction of duty.

Harda police station in-charge Pankaj Tyagi said they are awaiting postmortem report to ascertain other facts.

Police said the family members of the girl had created ruckus at hospital after her death and also damaged glass at a police post on Thursday night before staging a dharna.
