The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has decided to seek an extension of the custody of Karti Chidambaram, son of Congress leader and former Union finance minister P Chidambaram, on Tuesday for further questioning in connection with their probe into the INX Media money laundering case, even as Karti moved the top court seeking to quash the summons issued against him by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

Challenging the summons, Karti filed a fresh petition in the court, submitting that the ED has no jurisdiction to summon him based on an FIR filed by the CBI on charges of corruption. Accepting the plea, a bench led by Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra will hear the matter on Tuesday.

Earlier, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley told Karti's lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi that the CBI had enough evidence and a solid case against his client.

Jaitley said the government depended on four pieces of evidence and not just on one statement — by then INX Media owner Indrani Mukherjee, and they will be presented during the trial.

Karti was remanded in five-day CBI custody in the case on March 1 which ends on Tuesday.
