SC stays criminal proceedings against Arvind Kejriwal in defamation case

In a case of criminal defamation filed against Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal the Supreme Court on Friday stayed the criminal proceedings.

The court listed for 8 July a challenge by Kejriwal against the criminal offence of defamation under Section 499 and 500 of the Indian Penal Code 1860. It will be tagged with the similar case filed by BJP leader Subramanian Swamy.

Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari had filed a criminal defamation complaint in 2014 against Kejriwal for including his name in a list of allegedly 'India's Most Corrupt' politicians.
