Supreme Court on Monday dismissed a plea seeking a direction that passenger trains should not be halted or delayed in reaching their destinations to make way for premier trains like Rajdhani Express and Duronto, which are given priority.

A Bench headed by Chief Justice H L Dattu brushed aside the argument that every citizen has a right to reach his desired destination in time and thus passenger trains should not be stopped to give way to express trains like Rajdhani and Duronto. "On the one side, there has been demand for express trains but you are asking that express trains should not be given priority," the bench, also comprising Justice A K Sikri, orally observed while declining to entertain the PIL filed by advocate Shiva Sagar Tiwary.

"Your prayer should be that all passenger trains should be converted into super-fast trains," the bench said.
