To boost the morale of staff and inspire them to devote their working hours totally to the service of patients, the Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital medical superintendent has initiated a unique honour, which is common in MNCs, but rare in government institutions like hospitals.
The hospital administration has started recognising the work done by any individual or a team and felicitating them with ‘Star of the Month’ and ‘Team of the Month’ honours.
The move has come after the SMS Hospital surpassed the famous AIIMS in terms of footfall in the outpatient department. The administration is under immense pressure as the total number of patients had touched a whopping 26 lakh mark in 2013.
It has formed a three-member committee, which recommends the ‘stars’ on the basis of performances throughout the month.
Speaking to dna, Dr Virendra Singh, medical superintendent at SMS Hospital, said, “Appreciation is the key to unlock the talent hidden in an individual. The staffers are always under pressure and definitely need a pat on the back for working under such stressful environment. So, an honour will prove a booster shot to woo them.”
A biomedical waste team has been awarded with the ‘Team of the Month’.
Nursing staff of the month include Dinesh Gupta and Satyendra Singh.
The ward boy of the month award has been given to Munna Lal and the ‘guards of the month’ have been awarded for catching a thief red-handed while stealing valuables of a patient’s kin.
A big banner with pictures of all the outstanding performers at the hospital has been put up on the hospital board.
The new initiative is certainly proving to be a morale booster and motivating all employees to improve their performance as well.
