Satish Mathur has been appointed the new Director General of Maharashtra Police. Mathur is from the 1981-batch of the IPS. He will take charge from Praveen Dixit, who is retiring on July 31 on superannuation.

The orders were issued by the state home department on Saturday morning after chief minister Devendra Fadnavis signed it. Mathur is due to retire in June 2017.

The state government, however, has not yet made any appointment to replace Mathur in the Anti-Corruption Bureau which he headed for three months. Sources claim that though former Mumbai CP Rakesh Maria is senior most in order, but he is unlikely to be appointed to head the ACB.
