Pakistan’s foreign policy Chief Sartaj Aziz’s statement that his country’s missions abroad,  including the one in India, are reaching out to people opposed to Prime Minister Modi’s ‘extremist policies’ has evoked sharp reactions from India. External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Vikas Swarup said Islamabad should focus its energies on ‘stemming the rot of terrorism’, instead of making baseless charges. On Tuesday, Aziz conveyed to the country’s Senate that his government was doing its utmost to engage the international community, including its regional partners, to counter India’s efforts to isolate Pakistan in the region.

Swarup said Aziz has probably not anticipated the kind of reception he may receive. “Pakistan would be well advised to focus its energies on stemming the rot of terrorism instead of expending its breath in making baseless allegations.

It was also reported that Pakistan has set up a high-level committee to formulate ‘a doable and sustainable’ policy to highlight the Kashmir issue globally and is also reaching out to Indians who are opposed to Modi’s ‘extremist policies’.

Giving details of the demarche issued to Pakistan Deputy High Commissioner on Wednesday, Swarup addressed concerns at the continued attempts to infiltrate armed terrorists from across the LoC to target Indian posts
and patrols.

“In the last week alone, there have been 15 instances when terrorists indulged in nefarious activities in the vicinity of Pakistani army posts across the Line of Control,” he said, adding Pakistan forces have committed 27 ceasefire violations between 16 and 21 November, 2016 which constitute a clear violation of the ceasefire agreement of 2003.
