Suspended Trinamool Congress MP Kunal Ghosh on Monday demanded steps against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and others in connection with the Saradha chit fund scam and sought interim bail and parole to attend the Rajya Sabha, which were refused by a city court.

Ghosh claimed that he "started a fast-unto-death from today till steps were taken against those who used the Saradha Group", when he was produced before the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Rudraprasad Roy at City Sessions Court in connection with the chit fund scam.

While pleading before the court for interim bail to attend Rajya Sabha proceedings on the first day of the monsoon session, Ghosh, who was the head of Saradha Group''s media wing, prayed that steps be taken against Banerjee and others who, he alleged, had used it.

Ghosh prayed that he be granted bail for 20 hours on Tuesday so that he can be present in the Rajya Sabha.

On earlier occasions too, Ghosh, who was once close to the Trinamool Congress leadership, had prayed during court proceedings that the CBI interview Banerjee together with him.

Later in the day, the Rajya Sabha MP moved a prayer for parole before the court of chief judge Subhra Ghosh, claiming that he has been served a notice by the Upper House authorities to be present in Parliament tomorrow.

Opposing the prayer, the public prosecutor submitted that it was a simple notice given to all MPs to attend the House. He stated that parole was not applicable in such cases.

While his parole plea was rejected by the chief judge, the metropolitan magistrate rejected Ghosh''s interim bail prayer and extended his judicial remand till August 3.
