In a major setback to the Trinamool Congress, the Enforcement Directorate (ED), which is probing the Saradha scam, sealed eminent artist Suvaprasanna’s flat in Mumbai, seized government bonds worth Rs 10.5 crores and Rs 1.5 crore worth property of Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP Srinjoy Bose at Rajarhat and sent a notice to former Trinamool Congress Chhatra Parishad chief Sankudeb Panda on Tuesday.
The ED sealed eminent painter, Suvaprasanna’s flat in Mumbai, in connection with the multi-crore Saradha chit fund scam. Suvaprasanna is known to be a loyalist of West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee. The agency had earlier frozen 24 bank accounts of Suvaprasanna and had summoned him to appear before the agency as he had failed to provide sufficient documents of the Mumbai flat. Since then, Suvaprasanna has not appeared before the agency and is still avoiding further interrogation.
On the same day, the ED seized government bonds worth Rs 10.5 crores and Rs 1.5 crore worth property at Rajarhat of Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP Srinjoy Bose. Bose, who is in judicial custody in connection with the Saradha scam, following his arrest on November 21 is undergoing treatment at the state-run SSKM hospital.
Tuesday's move by the ED signals growing trouble for the Trinamool Congress, after two of their Rajya Sabha MPs - Kunal Ghosh and Srinjoy Bose, party vice-president Rajat Majumdar and West Bengal transport minister are behind the bars for alleged involvement in the Saradha scam.
Interestingly, former Trinamool Congress Chhatra Parishad chief Sankudeb Panda was also summoned by the ED on Tuesday. The notice stated that Panda needs to appear before the agency on December 30.
Immediately, the state panchayat minister, Subrata Mukherjee termed Panda’s summon as a ‘political conspiracy’. “We condemn this move by the ED. This notice is a proof of political conspiracy against us,” said Mukherjee.
