Saradha scam: CBI files supplementary chargesheet

Madan Mitra, Kunal Ghosh, Srinjoy Bose and Naresh Bhalodia named in the chargesheet, say CBI sources.

The Central Bureau of Investigation probing the multi-crore Saradha scam filed a supplementary chargesheet on Wednesday.

According to CBI sources, West Bengal transport minister Madan Mitra, Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP suspended from the party Kunal Ghosh, former Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP Srinjoy Bose and Saradha group chief Sudipta Sen’s lawyer Naresh Bhalodia have been named in the chargesheet.

Besides these influential persons, two media houses have also been named in the chargesheet.

This supplementary chargesheet comes at a time when the transport minister’s hearing of the bail petition filed with the Calcutta High Court is yet to take place.

The four have been charged with cheating, criminal breach of trust, criminal breach of trust by a public servant and misappropriation of funds. Charges slapped against the conspirators in the chargesheet are– 120B, 409 and 420 of IPC. 

Earlier, the CBI had filed charge sheets against the other accused in the scam - Sudipto Sen, Debjani Mukherjee, Rajat Mazumdar (now released under conditional bail), Sadanand Gogoi, Debabrata Mazumdar and Kunal Ghosh.

Meanwhile, the speculation is rife that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) is also likely to file its chargesheet in the Saradha scam.
