A Gurgaon-based woman, Priya Paul Singh, on Monday, claimed that she was the biological daughter of late Sanjay Gandhi, son of murdered former prime minister Indira Gandhi, and alleged that the upcoming movie 'Indu Sarkar' portrays the late Congress leader in poor light.

In a news conference, Singh claimed that she did not want to press for any property from the Nehru-Gandhi family and that she is now awaiting a nod from the courts to go ahead with a DNA test to ascertain her claim.

Singh claimed that she was put up for adoption when she was barely six months old at the Shishu Bhawan, and that after looking for the adoption papers for a while, she found some anomaly. "I was put into the shelter in the morning and was given up for adoption to a woman called Sheila Singh Paul that very evening, which is not the norm," she said, adding that she had filed a case against the adoption centres at the Civil Lines police station in December last year. Singh, however, said she did not know who her mother was.

Singh said she has been trying to find out her real identity for decades and that Vimala Gujral, the sister-in-law of former PM Inder Kumar Gujral, finally revealed who her father was. She added that the reason she has come out with her claim was the Madhur Bhandarkar movie, Indu Sarkar, which she says portrays her father in a bad light. The movie, which is based on the Emergency, is loosely based on the lives of Sanjay Gandhi and his mother, former PM Indira Gandhi.

While the Congress or Gandhi's wife, Union Minister Maneka Gandhi, has not made any comments on the matter, Bhandarkar told reporters that Congress leaders including Sanjay Nirupam and Jagdish Tytler have demanded a viewing of the film.
