In the statement to prove that Indian science technology advancements go back millennia, Tripura’s new chief minister Biplab Deb said that television and internet services go back to the time of The Ramayana and Mahabharata.

While defending his statement, Deb said that Sanjay, who described the series of events to the blind king Dhritarashtra while both were sitting in the palace, could do so because of the availability of television and internet services at the time.

"How can he see through Sanjay's eyes? There was technology available at that time... internet was there, satellite communication was there," Mr Deb said in a video captured by a TV channel.

While the scientific community is yet to comment on the Chief Minister's comment, this is not the first time BJP's ministers have made a statement like this.

In February, junior education minister of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's cabinet -- Satyapal Singh - courted controversy, saying certain 'mantras' codified the laws of motion much before they were discovered by Isaac Newton.

Last year, the minister said the first flying machine was invented by Indian scholar Shivkar Bapuji Talpade and not the Wright Brothers. This, he said, should be taught in the Indian Institutes of Technology and other engineering institutes.

Singh had also claimed that Charles Darwin's theory of evolution of man was "scientifically wrong" and it needs to be changed in school and college curriculum.

Singh, the Minister of State for Human Resource Development, said our ancestors have nowhere mentioned that they saw an ape turning into a man.

"Darwin's theory (of evolution of humans) is scientifically wrong. It needs to change in school and college curriculum. Since the man is seen on Earth he has always been a man," he said while speaking to reporters yesterday here.

There have also been claims that the Indian epics that people of the time used aeroplanes and conducted stem cell research.
