Salman Khan Verdict: Petition filed in Supreme Court seeking cancellation of interim bail

A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking cancellation of the bail given to the Bollywood superstar Salman Khan by the Bombay High Court on Wednesday.

According to reports, an advocate has filed a petition in seeking cancellation of interim bail.

Salman Khan was on Wednesday sentenced by a sessions court to five years' rigorous imprisonment, but he swiftly moved the Bombay High Court which granted him interim bail till May 8 to hear his appeal against conviction.

Justice Abhay Thipsay granted interim bail to the actor after observing that the accused had not been given a copy of the conviction order by the sessions court.

Delivering the verdict in the case that dragged on for over 12 years, sessions court judge DW Deshpande said "all charges" against the actor have been proved, which included the stringent charge of culpable homicide not amounting to murder, besides various other offences, including rash and negligent driving and driving under influence of liquor.

Salman has been convicted under Section 304 A of the Indian Penal Code (rash and negligent driving); 279 (rash driving); 337 (causing minor injuries); 338 (causing major injuries) 427 (negligence) in connection with the case. Under Motor Vehicle Act Sections 34 (a), (b) read with 181 (driving vehicle in contravention of rules); 185 (driving at great speed after consuming alcohol).
