Salian gives consent to be SPP in Pune techie murder case

Noted lawyer Rohini Salian has given a consent to represent the Mohsin Shaikh murder case as special public prosecutor (SPP). After lawyer Ujjwal Nikkam withdrew from the case as SPP, Shaikh family had approached Salian and responding to their request, she gave the consent.

Recently the Shaikh family had written a letter to the Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis seeking appointment of Salian. While writing to the state government, the family members had also written a letter to Salian requesting her to appear as SPP in the case. Salian recently replied positively to the family by writing a letter to them.

Confirming with DNA, Salian said, "I was approached by the family members of Mohsin Shaikh to appear in the case. I have given them a letter, giving my consent. I am ready to represent as SPP in the case subject to government notification."

The 28-year-old software engineer Mohsin Shaikh was killed in Pune's Hadapsar area on June 2,2014. This was the day when tension had prevailed in the city following derogatory pictures of prominent national figures were posted on social media and police suspected that Shaikh was attacked during the violence.

Following his murder, around 20 persons including the right wing organisation Hindu Rashtra Sena (HRS) chief Dhananjay Desai were arrested. In this case, noted lawyer Ujjwal Nikam was appointed as a special public prosecutor but recently he requested government to withdraw his name. After the withdrawal of Nikam, Shaikh family had claimed that their hopes were dashed but are now hopeful.
