Seven persons, including an Akali leader, have been booked for allegedly beating up five Dalit women, police said here today.

Abohar circle SAD president Ashok Ahuja, his brother Vijay Ahuja, Janak Raj Ahuja, Rajiv Bhatia, Sunny Bhatia and Ved Parkash are among those booked, they said.

"Five women were picking rags from a street on July 24, when Vijay accused one of them, Kajal, of stealing things from his house, after which his accomplices thrashed the women," said DSP Gurbinder Singh.

In her complaint, Kajal, who is pregnant, has claimed that she had to be hospitalized after she started bleeding.

"Two other women sustained injuries in the incident," said Singh.

"The accused, who are absconding, have been booked under relevant sections of the IPC. Police teams have been sent to several places to trace the accused," he said.
